Week Feb25-29 Monday Day1 - Period 4 Students work on annotating the Poem, ‘My Garden’ by Redmond Phillips. Focus on voice and tone, choice of language, punctuation and capitalization. Students practice reading the poem aloud with confidence and fluency. Tuesday Day2 - Period 2 Peer assessment of reading of ‘My Garden’ Students select 2 poems covered so far and work on personal connections, feelings and actions that the poems inspire. Wednesday Day3 - No class Thursday Day4 - Period 3 & 4 Period 3 - Students revise knowledge of poetic devices. Brainstorm their own poem entitled, ‘The kids in School with Me’ Brainstorm the process they will follow to construct / create / design their poem. Discussion of similarities and differences with the process in visual arts and DT Reflection on choosing a poetry book from the library that could help with ideas or techniques for the construction of their own poem. Period 4 – Students select their own poetry book form the library and write a brief review about its features. Homework – Write your own poem with the title discussed in class. Word process and illustrate it if you wish. Write a brief reflection highlighting the choices you made in terms of voice, theme mood and poetic devices. First draft Due date – Monday 03 March
